Jackie Jones
for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf
My name is Jackie Jones, and I’m standing to be one of your Welsh Labour Senedd candidates for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf.
I have worked in Welsh Government as a Special Advisor and in the Senedd for MSs, been a Cardiff Councillor and Wales's MEP - I know how government works, and this unique and valuable experience will be needed in the new 96-member Senedd.

I’ve spent much of my working life standing up for causes I care about. It would be the privilege of my life to go down to the Bay and fight on your behalf for the Wales we deserve. That’s why I’m standing - we deserve a Welsh Government dedicated to delivering prosperity, dignity and hope for each and every one of us in Wales, whoever you are and wherever you started out.

We know this election will be tough. Many of our fantastic MSs are standing down, and we will need a team who can hit the ground running - both in the campaign and at the start of the next Senedd term. I have the experience to win Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf for Welsh Labour/Co-operative Party and be a strong voice as your Senedd Member.

About me

I'm a Barrister by trade, a former Professor of Law, a Cardiff Councillor since 2022 and served as your Member of the European Parliament in the last days of the UK's EU membership. I've worked in the Senedd for three MSs and am now working in Welsh Government.
I have the key skills to help bring solutions to the issues facing Cardiff, the ideas and drive to move our community towards a brighter future.
My energy, innovation, vision, integrity and determination can and will deliver positive change.

A great campaigner and long-standing trade union activist
A passionate and experienced social activist, I have led several high-profile campaigns, including 1950s Women pensions, gender equality, ending violence against women and embedding human rights legislation into Welsh law.
I’ve been a trade union representative for 11 years for the University and Colleges Union (UCU and formerly NATFHE). I know that members never want to go on strike or negatively impact students. But sometimes that's what it happens.
To resolve it, it takes patience, dedication and listening to members. They deserve decent wages and fair conditions of work and as their representative, I always tried to secure it for them.

I am a member of UNISON, UNITE the Union, GMB and the FDA.

A Labour member
campaigning for change
I’ve been a Labour Party member for many years and I have campaigned in many elections. I have been a candidate too. I know how to deliver an energetic and successful campaign.
In 2021, I stood as a Senedd candidate for Preseli Pembrokeshire, overseeing a nine-point swing toward Welsh Labour. That was with only 7 weeks of campaigning due to COVID restrictions.
In 2022, I along with three colleagues, took the 4 Conservative-held seats of Whitchurch & Tongwynlais in the Cardiff Council elections through sheer hard campaigning and determination.

A strong campaign with a dedicated team and clear messaging will be key to retaining this new seat for Labour. Plaid is limited in what it offers voters - nationalism and division, not hope and investment for the City. The Lib Dems are partly responsible for the austerity measures. Reform will bring chaos and division.
Only a Welsh Labour government can deliver for all of Wales and the UK.

Experience winning difficult elections
In 2022, I was elected as a Councillor, turning a comfortable Tory majority into a strong Labour gain. We campaigned hard from day one to win over voters with fresh ideas and the possibility of positive change.
In 2019-20 I represented all of Wales in the European Parliament. I was a passionate voice on issues like jobs, equality, climate action and investment into Wales. In the 2019 General Election, I traveled throughout Wales to help campaign for a Labour.
I worked as a lecturer in law for many years and enjoyed speaking to young people all the time about their vision for our future. Cardiff has a large University population and I am well placed to get them out to campaign and vote.

Why vote for me?
With my campaign, we can continue the work we started 26 years ago when the Senedd was established. Devolution is important and we need power for a purpose: Only Labour MSs in a Labour government can keep delivering for the people of Wales and bring the prosperity needed and the investment into Cardiff. Plaid, Reform and the Lib Dems will not deliver.
I will run an energetic campaign and deliver the win we need to build a fairer Cardiff - and Wales.

I believe in cooperation - and I am a proud past Chair of the Co-operative Party. Labour's sister party brings local democracy and community-based solutions like community energy, food security and housing to our current challenges.
Fresh ideas for a renewed Senedd.
My priorities for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf
If elected, I’ll work with the Welsh government and the Labour government at Westminster to fight for the things that will make a real difference - championing issues beyond nationalist agendas.
My priorities include:
-
Ending child poverty and real help with the cost of living.
-
More affordable housing for local people to rent and buy.
-
Public transport we can rely on across the Cardiff region.
-
Creating green, research & development jobs that are well-paid and that rejuvenate local communities.
-
Tackling climate change, including investment for renewables, making Wales and the UK one of the greenest countries in the world.
-
Ensuring the Welsh language and culture are protected.
-
Better local healthcare for all.
-
Co-operation in action: Buying local & shortening food miles; community energy projects for local residents.

Dr Richard Corbett CBE -
Former Labour Party Leader in the European Parliament
"I worked with and got to know Jackie when she was Member of the European Parliament for Wales.
When so much was at stake in the final phase of the Brexit negotiations, Jackie was a vital conduit between the Welsh government and Brussels, ensuring that Welsh interests were heard loud and clear in that tumultuous period when the UK governments of May and Johnson ignored Welsh interests.
Jackie also left a mark inside the Parliament where she was extremely effective from day one. She served on no fewer than two parliamentary committees: Women's Rights & Gender Equality (where I had no hesitation in making her Labour’s spokesperson) and Legal Affairs.
She was also the Vice-Chair of the Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the United States Congress, just when Trump first came to power, being among the first to warn in detail of the likely consequences.
Jackie founded the Wales-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group to strengthen Welsh-EU relations and provide a platform for Welsh interests and citizens' rights at the European level. Post Brexit, Jackie has continued to make her knowledge and networks available whenever they could help resolve Brexit-triggered problems faced by businesses, families and individuals."

That’s why I’m backing Jackie Jones. Jackie has represented Wales in the European Parliament, she’s a Councillor, and lawyer who has fought for justice and equality and she has made her mark as an equalities adviser in Welsh Government.
She brings experience from Brussels to the Bay and the determination to fight for her community. I know she will be a strong, effective Labour voice for Cardiff in the Senedd."
